If you are like me bought 4 AirTag packs and started tracking your bike, cat, dog, or anything else that could possibly be stolen or could run away. And a few weeks later your wife buys a car and wants to take your air tag from you to track her car :) What is the right way to do it technically? I think a lot of people will find this information helpful.
So first, all you have to do is remove it from your Apple ID. But there is one limitation. Your Airtag must be close to the phone to connect the Bluetooth
How to remove AirTag from Apple ID
- Find and open the Find My app.
- Select the AirTag you connect via Bluetooth
- Select Remove.
- Press the Remove button.
But what to do if you deleted it from your Apple ID but the device was not in Bluetooth range. Your wife can’t use it before doing a factory reset.
AirTAG has an awesome security option. IF someone stole your tracker and factory reset it themselves they cant use it as their own — but only after you remove it from your Apple ID.
How to factory reset an AirTag without a Bluetooth connection
- Remove the AirTags’s battery cover (press down and rotate clockwise).
- Remove the battery.
- Put the battery back in the AirTag and press down on it until it makes a sound.
- When the sound finishes, repeat the process 4 more times, removing and replacing the battery each time. The last sound will be different from another 4. It is finished.
- Put the battery cover securely back on the AirTag.
To use AirTag again you need to add the device to your new Apple ID via Bluetooth
